The Best Dosa Near You
Hungry, somewhere in Western or Greater Sydney, and craving a properly made dosa? The Royal Udupi is in Parramatta, open both lunch and dinner, with seven varieties of dosa on the menu.
If "best dosa near me" is how you ended up here, the short answer is: come to Marsden Street, Parramatta. Long answer below — but the kitchen is open, the batter has been fermenting since last night, and the iron tawas are hot.
We're a small, family-run Udupi-style restaurant. "Udupi" is the coastal Karnataka town that invented the masala dosa — and the style of cooking it gave the world is the one we serve here. That means dosa with a proper hand-spread, golden, lacy crust; benne (cultured white butter) finishes on the Bangalore-style dosas; and stainless steel tumblers of filter coffee to finish the meal.
From most of Greater Sydney we're under 30 minutes away — usually faster than the next nearest authentic dosa kitchen. Parking is plentiful (Westfield decks, Erby Place), the train station is a six-minute walk, and walk-ins are welcome for tables of one to three. Bigger groups, please book.
On the menu
Seven dosas, all made to order
Pick a benne, a podi, or a Mysore masala. Each one fresh on the tawa — no shortcuts, no holding warmers.

Common questions
Are you open right now?+
Lunch 11am–3pm weekdays, dinner 5pm–9:30pm, continuous 11am–9:30pm on weekends. The current open status is shown live on the home page — when it says "Open Now", we are.
Is The Royal Udupi the closest dosa place to me?+
We're in Parramatta, central to most of Greater Sydney. From Western Sydney and the Hills District we're typically the nearest authentic South Indian dosa kitchen; from the CBD or Eastern Suburbs you're around 25 minutes by train. If a closer option exists for you, taste the difference — most regulars say the drive is worth it.
Do you do takeaway?+
Yes — order via WhatsApp using the floating green button or call us on the number at the top of the page. Pick-up is from Shop 4/144 Marsden Street.
Is the food really authentic?+
Yes. The chef trained in Karnataka, the recipes come from Udupi temple-kitchen tradition, the tawas are cast iron, the batter is fermented overnight, and the benne (white butter) is the cultured kind Bangalore dosa shops use — not regular salted butter.
Do you cater for kids or large groups?+
Yes — kid-friendly menu items include plain dosa, idli, and curd rice. For groups of four or more please book through the Reservations page; we can seat parties up to 30 with advance notice.
